Sundry items, inclusive of clothing, furniture, computer equipment, tools and household furnishings, will be up for auction at the Queen's Warehouse in Montego Bay, St James, on April 8 and 22.

Claudette Coombs, acting collector of customs in Montego Bay, told The Gleaner the event is well supported every year. She said the main aim of the auction was to recover fees incurred by the items.

"These are goods which have been imported over four-and-a-half months ago. The primary reason for the auction is to recover duties and storage owed. The reserve price at which we start would normally include duty, storage costs and transportation costs," she said.

Sales lists for the items are being displayed for viewing at customs houses across the island.

However, Coombs warned that items advertised might not be the ones available on the day, as owners of the goods have the right to pay up and clear their items up to the day of sale.

Individuals who wish to participate in the auction must be registered. They should submit two passport-size photographs, their tax registration number card and a valid ID. Registration takes place at Queen's Warehouse, Sangster International Airport, Norman Manley International Airport and Queen's Warehouse, 230 Spanish Town Road, Mondays to Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
